HOW OUR JOURNEY BEGAN

Hi! We’re Paul and Lisa – travel dreamers, downsizing champions, and proud grandparents who decided we were done waiting for “someday.”

Our story isn’t flashy. We’re not influencers or trust fund travelers. We’re just two regular people who hit midlife, looked at each other, and said, “What are we waiting for?”

Our wanderlust started over a decade ago, but a fast-paced road trip out west in 2022 really opened our eyes. Ten days. 1,400 miles. Las Vegas, Arizona, Utah. It sounded epic - and it kind of was - but we came home totally drained, wallet lighter, and wishing we had actually experienced the places we rushed through.

That trip planted a seed.

In 2024, we discovered slow travel on YouTube - an intentional, budget-friendly way to explore the world without burning out or going broke. We were inspired. We built a 3-year plan.

And then… life did what life does. Paul was diagnosed with cancer (he’s thankfully cancer-free now ). We lost our jobs very unexpectedly later that year. Suddenly, the “someday” plan felt way too far away.

So we pivoted.

In 2025, we sold our home near Raleigh, NC, downsized our lives to the essentials, and bought a truck and RV. Our new plan? Travel the U.S. and Canada, visit every major national park and Major League Baseball stadium that we can, and then see what happens next. Southeast Asia? Europe? South America? Maybe all of the above. We're figuring it out as we go.

Low Budget Nomads is our way of documenting this journey - honestly, openly, and on a shoestring budget. We’ll share the beautiful moments, the messy lessons, and the nitty-gritty of how we’re making this lifestyle work (without a big bank account).

If you’ve ever dreamed of hitting the road, chasing something different, or just living a life that feels more yours - you’re in the right place.

Let’s wander smart, spend less, and live more. Together.
